The Jindal School of Environment & Sustainability (JSES) is working to lead the world towards a sustainable future with innovative teaching, practice-based learning and impact-driven research. The world today is facing an increasing array of environmental challenges that require greater levels of innovation and collaboration among industry, government, academics and communities. The ongoing environmental crises comes with research and human resource lacunae at various levels. JSES aims to fill these gaps by combining environment & sustainability studies with applied research, public advocacy and capacity building. The primary goal of JSES is to offer students a concentration in environment and sustainability studies with opportunities to explore how humans interact with the environment, including physical, biological, economic, philosophical, social and legal elements.
JSES has now opened admissions to the innovative, multidisciplinary and engagement-driven B.A. (Hons.) Environment & Sustainable Development and B.Sc. (Hons.) Environment & Sustainable Development programmes.
The fully residential BSESD degree programme provides multiple perspectives empowering students to address challenging environment and sustainability issues in an interactive classroom environment. Besides deep-diving theoretical frameworks, principles, concepts and applicationbased engagement in the domain of environmental and sustainable development, the programme comprises class-room discussions, lab research, field visits, case studies, industry internships, live projects and unique pedagogical approaches aimed at enhancing interaction, practical learning and curiosity among the students.
In the near future, JSES aims to offer online postgraduate and executive degree programmes in Environment and Sustainability. Some of these post-graduate programmes are likely to be offered in collaboration with top-ranked overseas universities.

The dark shadows of Environmental degradation and climate change are looming large on our civilization. At The United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 (COP26), Glasgow, nations have committed to reducing 2.2 gigatonnes reduction of carbon dioxide while India is committed to achieving net zero carbon emission targets by 2070. This indicates the world's policy‐level focus on combating environmental challenges through sustainable solutions. This results in a domain expertise vacuum where corporations, organizations, policymakers and implementers require skilled personnel in the field of 'Environment and Sustainable development'.

During my five‐week internship at theCentre for Science and Environment (CSE) in New Delhi, I had the opportunity to contribute to their Municipal Solid Waste and School of Circular Economy team. My primary task was to conduct secondary research for a Compendium on Best Practices in Solid Waste Management in the Global South.
During my internship at DRDO, I had the privilege of working in the DIHAR sector (Defence Institute of Higher Altitude Research). My research primarily focused on the Organic Farming in Ladakh: Opportunities and Challenges. The internship was divided into two parts. The first part was remote, where I researched the current state of organic farming in Ladakh and compared the prices of organic produce in other cities. I conducted surveys and collected data.
During my internship at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), I worked with the Environment and Education Unit, contributing to the Young Environmentalist website and Gobar Times. My role included creating 13 Instagram posts, 10 stories, thumbnails for the website, and managing outreach through the Green Schools Programme portal. I also assisted in a Sustainable Architecture Workshop, gaining hands-on experience in digital content creation, social media strategy, and educational outreach focused on environmental sustainability.
At Siruthuli, an NGO focused on water body rejuvenation and creating green spaces, I gained hands-on experience in planting techniques, soil preparation, and mulching using the Miyawaki method. I also created awareness programs for school children, delivered a speech on sustainability, and developed a video for their SPB Vanam project. This internship provided me with holistic exposure to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
For my 2024 summer internship, I worked remotely with VMC Management Consulting in the ESG department. I researched ISO standards, explored IT’s role in sustainable supply chains, and assisted in developing an ESG steel performance index for the steel sector. This internship deepened my understanding of ESG, meeting my goal to gain practical knowledge in the field.
My internships have been transformative. At Eastern Organic Fertilizer Company, I explored sustainable agriculture and organic fertilizers' impact on soil health. At UNESCO-Krityanand Club, I honed research and simulation skills, enhancing my understanding of global environmental systems. The Monash GIG Program offered international exposure, strengthening my collaborative mindset to address pressing environmental challenges.
